DIY Mouthwash

We have been meaning to write this one for a while, it has been tried and tested and we love it! This is the perfect natural swap for those chemical ridden mouthwashes that are readily available.

You will need :

Amber glass bottle

1 Cup of cool boiled water

1 Teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda

2 Teaspoons of Xylitol

10 drops of DoTERRA Spearmint Essential Oil (You may choose another brand or flavour but please check it is safe to use orally)

Method :

Pop your funnel onto your amber glass bottle and add your ingredients one by one, we initially tried 5 drops of the spearmint essential oil but felt it wasn’t minty enough. Always make to your taste. Simply give a good shake and you’re good to go. Only make enough for a week as this recipe will need to be refreshed weekly.

Why these ingredients?

Xylitol is a natural sweetener derived from the fibrous parts of plants. It does not break down like sugar and can help keep a neutral pH level in the mouth. Xylitol also prevents bacteria from sticking to the teeth. This is how it helps prevent from tooth decay.

Bicarbonate of Soda acts as an abrasive and helps with whitening.

doTERRA Spearmint Essential Oil is completely safe to use in your mouth and to ingest but we recommend not swallowing this recipe. Just use like normal mouthwash. Spearmint is also our favourite mint flavour.

*Please remember that this recipe works for us but may not work for everyone. If you are unsure of any ingredients, please research or consult an expert. Thank you*
